Aspire Psychotherapy is a Hampshire based psychological therapies service specialising in the provision of psychological therapies including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and counselling for individuals. We also provide a range of psychological support services for businesses and organisations.

Most of us at some point in our lives are affected by psychological problems.  We can feel a pervasive sense of sadness, notice a distinct change in our relationships or start becoming anxious for apparently no reason.  Whilst for many this can be a temporary state, for others it can cause ongoing distress, future difficulties and a sense that they are never going to be problem free again.

Many people are able, with time, to work through their problems either independently or with the support structures they currently have around them, friends, family etc.  However, some people need some extra support to overcome their obstacles. The first step to change is to recognise that there is a problem, that there is some aspect of your life that you are unhappy with and have a desire to change it.

This is where Aspire Psychotherapy has the potential to help. Aspire offers a confidential, professional psychotherapy and counselling service for individuals over the age of 16 in Southampton and Winchester. Services provided include face-to-face counselling, cognitive-behavioural therapy and psychotherapy.

Counselling, Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)


There are numerous forms of therapy available and once an individual has decided that they may benefit from the help and support of a professional it can be a minefield trying to decide which would be the most appropriate or useful. Counselling, psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can be broadly thought of as ‘talking therapies’ whereby you will meet with a suitably trained and qualified professional to explore the difficulties you are facing. During the first session you will discuss what brings you to therapy and what you wish to get out of the process.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

In the main very little, and often people use the terms interchangeably. Clients sometimes prefer the term counselling to psychotherapy because it can sound less intimidating. However if we were to draw a distinction then: So where does cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) fit in?
Don’t panic if it is still not completely clear, as a counselling psychologist I have been trained to use counselling, psychotherapy and CBT ways of working in my practice.
